“‘Legend: A Film about Greg Garing'” is the best short documentary I’ve seen in three years of programming this festival.”
– Mike Phillips, Chicago International Movies and Music Festival
I made this film with Greg from start to finish in one long weekend, as part of the International Documentary Challenge contest in 2010. “Legend” won Best Film at the Doc Challenge finalists’ screening at Hot Docs in Toronto, and went on to screen at Sheffield Doc/Fest and IDFA in Amsterdam.
The Documentary Channel broadcast “Legend” for over a year. The film also screened at Big Sky, Rooftop Films in NYC, Nashville, Jecheon, Rushes Soho Shorts Festival, and the San Francisco International Festival of Short Films.
MarBelle at the Director’s Notes Podcast did a nice interview with me discussing the making of Legend.
I am very happy to report that Greg is still alive and fighting. He has relocated to Nashville, and performs there occasionally as well. You can keep track of what he’s up to here.
“[A] powerful story of music-making and aging.”
– Bryce J. Renninger, Indiewire
